:: BRANDS HATCH, 2nd & 3rd April

Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain 2011 started with 2 opening rounds at the infamous Brands Hatch circuit. This year's GT3 Cup car is, in fact, the 2010 Porsche Carerra SuperCup model with some changes related to the UK noise and emission regulations. With a lot of development work still necessary for the Nationwide Motorbase team and its drivers, Tin Harvey did not have as much luck as one hoped for. After qualifying 4th and 5th for the two races, he suffered a tyre puncture in Race one which, after returning to the pits to replace the tyre, threw him way back and of the points. A sensible and conservative approach to Race 2 was rewarded with a 4th place and some points after the first Carrera Cup weekend of the season.

Furthermore, a somewhat perplexing manner in which Porsche Motorsport declared the official weight of the 2011 GT3 Cup for the British series, and the way the regulations all teams and drivers had to accept and sign before actually having had the opportunity to (physically) inspect and verify the car, led to a situation where some (strangely enough, not the youngest and lightest in terms of body weight) drivers became penalised in terms of their lap times (almost) by default. While not an excuse of justification for any level of under-performing, a few tenths of a second per lap of disadvantage can, and often is an eternity within a field of identical cars and a number of capable drivers in them.
